Abstract
Older age is frequently related to asexuality. That is, older folks are maybe maybe not considered desiring of intercourse, nor as sexually desirable to other people. Broader social and cultural norms that downplay women’s libido and agency compound that is further phenomena. Whether this image that is popular reflects older ladies’ intimate desires, behavior and ability to experience pleasure is confusing. Drawing on semi-structured interviews with 43 partnered Australian females aged 55-81, this short article considers ladies’ intimate experiences and desires in older age. The findings of y our research concur that older ladies’ experiences of intercourse and sexual interest are diverse and fluid. A few of the facets that influenced individuals’ intimate behavior and desire will likely be considered in this specific article, since will their understandings of exactly what “counts” as intimate satisfaction and “successful sex”. The facets impacting intimate behavior and desire also influence the way ladies are in a position to negotiate intimate discussion with regards to lovers. Individuals indicated a need for training and resources so that you can gain greater control also to make autonomous alternatives over their intimate experiences, desire and capacity to offer and get pleasure. The implications of those findings for practitioners may also be considered.
