Author Peggy Orenstein claims that whenever it comes down to sexuality, girls today are getting messages that are mixed. Girls hear that “they may be said to be sexy, they truly are likely to perform intimately for men,” Orenstein informs oxygen’s Terry Gross, “but that their sexual joy is unspoken.”
While researching her brand new guide, Girls & Intercourse, Orenstein talked with over 70 women amongst the ages of 15 and 20 about their attitudes and very very early experiences because of the complete number of real closeness.
She states that pop music tradition and pornography sexualize women by producing undue pressure to look and work sexy. These pressures affect both the expectations that are sexual girls placed on themselves in addition to expectations males project onto them.
