Rising tensions between Myanmar and Japan have prompted Japanese authorities to put an end to an unprecedented 10 years of tension.
It was the second nuclear test of the decade to hit Asia, following a nuclear test by the South China Sea island of Guam in January. Japan says it is ready to step up sanctions if Japan agrees to end its three-month, $3.5 billion armistice in the South China Sea.
The situation is further complicated by fears that Japan’s military is building a new nuclear submarine and other long-range ballistic missiles without permission, leaving some Japanese commanders wondering whether their navy is actually being built.
The government’s recent military reforms have allowed Japan to develop ballistic missile submarines in line with its wartime commitments, including an extended presence of the 4,500-ton warship Yamato, which now runs at 8,000 kilometers each.
